A project of this magnitude requires a massive onshore infrastructure network to transport electricity from the coast to the national grid. PLS was appointed by VolkerFitzpatrick to deliver a critical portion of this onshore link, involving a vast network of cable ducting and specialized joint bays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The scale of the Hornsea 3 onshore works was immense. The project required the installation of 54km of onshore ducting across varied and often challenging terrain. For a project of this length, consistency is the biggest challenge because every meter of duct must be laid to exact gradients and alignments. In addition to the main duct runs, the scope included the construction of 50 joint bays. These are large, reinforced underground structures where separate sections of cable are spliced together.
